Yokanga Conservation Sponsors NASF Norway Auction
The annual auction in support of the wild Atlantic salmon was held in Oslo on November 7th. This was the fifteenth auction and was a great success, with a record income. There is a growing concern among fishers and owners of fishing rights alike that more work has to be done to protect wild salmon stocks. Thanks to generous donors more than USD 200 000 was raised from the event. The funds will be used on demanding tasks like the buyout of commercial salmon fishing in the sea as well as local conservation projects supporting migratory fish runs.
The auction attracts many of the keenest salmon fishers in Norway but also several people from other countries attend every year. With lots on offer including high end fishing on rivers like the Alta, Yokanga and Årøy mixed with lower priced opportunities there was something for everyone to bid for. The auction was also viewed online by a large audience.
The event included as usual updates on the current status of wild salmon conservation, highlighting what has been achieved recently and what should be the focus in the future.
The NASF Norway auction is organized by Reddvillaksen, which is the Norwegian affiliate of the non-profit international volunteer organization North Atlantic Salmon Fund.
